TsunYa Mountford began volunteering with Working Wardrobes in August 2025 and since then she has shared her time, care, and creativity with Working Wardrobes in a variety of volunteer roles, including front desk volunteer, wardrobe assistant, and wardrobe stylist. No matter where she is serving, TsunYa brings a thoughtful presence and a genuine desire to help others feel supported.

TsunYa was inspired to volunteer with Working Wardrobes because of her love for helping people, as well as her passion for fashion and creativity. For her, Working Wardrobes is a place where those passions come together in a meaningful way to support people as they prepare for new opportunities.

One of the things TsunYa enjoys most is being able to connect with people in different ways across the organization. At the front desk, she is often one of the first people clients meet when they arrive, and she understands how much a warm welcome can matter when someone is feeling nervous or uncertain. In the donation center, she helps select clothing and prepare wardrobe options that give stylists a wide range of choices for each client. As a wardrobe stylist, she especially loves helping people of all ages find outfits that feel true to who they are and help them step forward with confidence.

One moment that has stayed with her was working with a 20-year-old client who had been affected by the Los Angeles fires. The client shared that many of the clothes she had did not feel like her, so TsunYa took the time to listen, understand her style, and help her put together outfits that felt more authentic and comfortable. Watching her light up and feel confident in what she chose was a powerful reminder of how meaningful this work can be.

When asked about Working Wardrobes’ impact, TsunYa shared that she believes the organization gives people a real second chance. Through practical support, guidance, and professional clothing, Working Wardrobes helps people rebuild confidence and move forward with hope.

A fun fact about TsunYa is that her background is in engineering. She holds a PhD in aerospace and mechanical engineering, which may surprise people, but she sees a natural connection between engineering and styling. Both are about listening, problem solving, and helping someone find the right fit.

We are so grateful for TsunYa and the kindness, heart, and care she brings to Working Wardrobes. Volunteers like her help create an experience where people feel seen, encouraged, and ready for what comes next.
