OC METRO Women Section For Women who want to succeed professionally & personally both in the Workforce and Life. By Kimberly A. Porrazzo Nov. 11, 2004 Online With…
Jerri Rosen, founder/executive director for WORKING WARDROBES for a NEW START. The nonprofit will soon host its major fundraiser of the year. OCM: What does Working Wardrobes provide to those in need? ROSEN: We provide job readiness and life skills workshops, personal grooming services and professional wardrobes for men, women and teens who are emerging from life crises and are ready to re-enter the workforce. OCM: Why did you become involved? What is your background? ROSEN: I started the organization 14 years ago with five of my good friends. We only intended to do one Day of Self-Esteem for women 14 years ago and then move on with our lives! But the concept was so satisfying that everyone wanted to do it again and again! We are also branching out to provide wardrobes for breast cancer survivors - a new program for us that launches in early 2005. OCM: What is the most satisfying thing about what you do? ROSEN: Seeing the glow on the faces of the clients we help and knowing they are more confident and job-ready. Just as important, watching volunteers have the experience of working directly with clients and seeing the transformation before their eyes. Way more empowering than the current run of “Extreme Makeover!” OCM: What is the biggest need? ROSEN: Besides money, which all nonprofits need, we are constantly on the search for good quality, plus-size clothing for men (48- 62) and women (sizes 18 - 8X). Men’s shoes and belts are always in demand. OCM: Tell me about the Nov. 20th gala. ROSEN: The Celebration of Success Gala is our major fundraiser of the year. A number of the men and women we have helped will be on stage at the event, sharing the changes they have made in their lives and looking terrific! Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westin South Coast Plaza. Information: www.workingwardrobes.org. OCM: How can people get involved? ROSEN: Many, many ways! First, please call our offices at (714) 210-2460 and we’ll find a connection that works for you: clothing donor, personal shopper, office help, event volunteer, success coach or corporate advocate. There is a connection we can and want to make with everyone!
