A Lamborghini. The Marines. A Puppy. Outrageous Tennies…
All Were Part of the “Black Tie & Tennies” Gala Event that Raised $150,000
to Fund Working Wardrobes’ New Career Development Center

Fountain Valley, Calif: On Saturday, November 4, 2006, nearly 300 guests gathered at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach to show off their outrageously decorated tennies while celebrating the moving success stories from Working Wardrobes’ programs. The evening continued to rev up during the live auction as guests had the opportunity to bid on a weekend rental of a Gallardo Spyder donated by Lamborghini of Orange County, a rare experience onboard a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and a Black Labrador puppy. Scores of other one-of-a-kind live and silent auction items were on display and by the end of the evening, nearly $150,000 had been raised to support Working Wardrobes new Career Development Center!

The “Black Tie & Tennies” Gala was no ordinary event which combined luxury and comfort with a fun twist. “It was a wonderful evening of elegance, entertainment and the most creatively decorated tennies I’ve seen! We were proud to host an event that brought together more than 250 people to have a great time and support an organization we each truly believe in,” shared Christy Marlin, president of the Designing Women, a guild in support of Working Wardrobes.

Irvine Mayor Beth Krom was on-hand to help recognize law firm Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear with an award for Outstanding Corporate Partner. Jerri Rosen, Founder and Executive Director of Working Wardrobes, honored Phoenix Houses of Orange County as an Outstanding Community Partner. “It was a privilege to be able to publicly honor Knobbe Martens and Phoenix House for their ongoing commitment to Working Wardrobes. The support of both these organizations has been vital to the success of our mission and has helped restore self-sufficiency and dignity to countless men, women and teens,” says Jerri Rosen, Founder/Executive Director of Working Wardrobes.

This year’s gala is presented by Designing Women, a guild supporting Working Wardrobes’ mission to help adults in crises get back to work. Designing Women brings together a group of dedicated, dynamic volunteers who organize fundraising events and build awareness for the services Working Wardrobes provides for the community.

The proceeds from the “Black Tie & Tennies” Gala will help fund Working Wardrobes’ Career Development Center which will begin construction in December 2006. The Center will help broaden the services Working Wardrobes currently offers by providing valuable job readiness workshops, career consultations, computer stations for resume development and job searching, and a resource library. This addition represents the most significant expansion of service in the organization’s 16-year history.
